BIRTHDAYS ANDGOOD-BYES " Although Caroline (Candice Accola) is in no mood to celebrate her18th birthday, Elena (Nina Dobrev),Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Matt (Zach Roerig) surprise her with a small partyin an unusual location.  Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) disagree on the best way to handle Klaus (JosephMorgan), and a reckless Stefan decides to test his theory by taking things todangerous extremes.  Bonnie is concernedwhen Elena tells her about Jeremys (Steven R. PERSIA WHITE GUEST STARS AS BONNIES MOTHER "Bonnie (Kat Graham) believes herrecurring dreams about Klaus (Joseph Morgan) coffins will tell her how he canbe killed.  The dreams also lead Bonnieto a reunion with her mother, Abby (guest star Persia White, Girlfriends),whom Bonnie hasnt seen for 15 years.  AtAbbys remote farmhouse, Bonnie and Elena (Nina Dobrev) meet Jamie (guest star Robert Richard, One onOne), the young man Abby took in years earlier.  Bonnies sudden appearance catches Abby off-guard,but she does her best to explain the past. Tyler (Michael Trevino) turns to an unexpected ally in his quest toregain his free will.  Damon (Ian Somerhalder) is intrigued by Alarics (Matt Davis) new friend, Dr. Fell (guest star TorreyDevitto), and Klaus continues his bitter negotiations with Stefan (Paul Wesley) over control of the coffins containinghis family members.  John Dahl directedthe episode written by Brian Young (#312).

A FAMILY DINNER " Sheriff Forbes (Marguerite MacIntyre)delivers some disturbing news to Alaric (MattDavis) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) aboutthe weapon used in a recent murder.  Inthe Salvatore brothers escalating quest to kill Klaus (Jospeh Morgan), Stefan(Paul Wesley) turns to Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Abby (guest star Persia White),while Damon (Ian Somerhalder)reaches out to an old acquaintance for help in setting up an elaborateplan.  Intent on a plan of his own, Klaushosts a strange dinner party, where he reveals another story from his familysviolent past until an unexpected guest brings the party to an end.  Meanwhile, Caroline (Candice Accola) isheartbroken when she is unable to stop a tragedy from unfolding.  Zach Roerig also stars.  Jeffrey Hunt directed the episode written by TuriMeyer & Al Septien (#313).
